Vogue Cover Controversy - This SH#* Right Here!!!

Lebron James on Cover of Vogue A few days back I talked about Lebron James being on the cover of Vogue. I had heard about the controversy surrounding it and how some people thought he was being depicted as a king kong type character. But this right here… WOW!! (pics below)

When Necole Bitchie covered the story she had pointed out that she felt another picture, in which Gisele was posted on Lebron’s shoulders looking like the stereotypical white trophy wife, was to her more offensive which I agreed but more or less I had personally dismissed the controversy as people reading to much into things. That was until earlier on this morning when I came across a post at The Starting Five, which had the Vogue Cover followed by what seems to be a poster of the King Kong character (see pictures below) and… hmmm. The similarities are a little too much for this to be coincidental. THE DRESS, THE DAMN DRESS!!!

Now after I calmed down I tried my best to see if there could be another reason behind the concept of this picture and there might be one possibility that I have come up with which may support the actual concept of the image.

The concept goes back to us actually looking into the story of King Kong itself, in which the only way this would be less offensive is if the Photographer Annie Leibovitz was trying to make some sort of commentary on the lines of the original King Kong story/ movie where King Kong is initially shown as a savage monster but by the end the viewer can not help but feel empathetic to him in realization that if indeed he was a savage it was because they pushed him to be less humane than he could have been, and if there truly was a monster it was the society that mistreated him.

That being said do i truly believe that argument I just proposed in possible defense of the Vogue creative team.. nope. I would think that Annie Lebowitz, who is a Jewish, Gay (source:wiki), Woman, would be relatively sensitive to such matters. And would have the ability to understand in some capacity what type of negative controversy such an image may cause, especially when Lebron James is the First Black Male in the 116 year history of the Magazine to be on the cover.

Anyway here are the pictures you compare and decide.
